13th Annual Health Services and Outcomes Research Conference

Poster

Dan Li is a senior at Rice University majoring in Kinesiology: Sports Medicine.  This semester for his Independent Study, he has worked with our adjunct professor Dr. Armin Weinberg, who is also CEO of the Life Beyond Cancer Foundation and a Clinical Professor at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dan and Dr. Weinberg collaborated with Debra Kellstedt, a graduate student at Texas A&M, on an abstract project that has gained the opportunity to be presented at a major conference here in Houston.  After submitting Kellstedt’s proposal, the collaborative abstract project was accepted for a prestigious poster presentation at the 13th Annual Health Services and Outcomes Research Conference on December 13, 2012.  The conference is designed to connect the fields of health services research and medical practice. Presenters and attendees include health services researchers, healthcare executives, quality improvement directors, and health care professionals. Past conferences have fostered collaborative partnerships and led to funded research projects to improve the quality of healthcare.

In 2000, the Kelsey Research Foundation initiated a conference to provide a forum to address the challenges that we face in improving the quality of healthcare. The conference has become a vital collaboration to unite a wide audience of those concerned with meaningful and innovative initiatives.

Healthcare institutions striving to improve quality of care are considering a number of strategies including adopting the accountable care organization model and utilizing innovative health information technology. This conference featured presentations and workshops on the impact of accountable care organizations and health information technology on the delivery of quality healthcare by leaders in these fields.  The poster session focused on the major components of quality of care.

The conference was held at the Houston Medical Center Marriott located at 6580 Fannin.

Congrats and best of luck to Dan, Dr. Weinberg, and Debra!
