2015 Kinesiology Graduation Reception

The Rice University Kinesiology Department celebrated all of our 53 graduating seniors across our two programs (Health Sciences and Sports Medicine) at a special reception held in Brochstein Pavilion on Friday, May 15, 2015.  Those in attendance included the graduates, their parents, the faculty and staff of the Kinesiology Department, and members of the Dean’s office of Natural Sciences, including Dean Peter Rossky.

We celebrated a successful second year in the Wiess School of Natural Sciences and ended the year with a total of 196 majors between our two programs.  We are proud that our department continues to grow, and wish our graduates continued success!

GriffinHermanceDuring the reception we recognized our two Hermance Award winners: Cristina Saez (Health Sciences) and Adam Griffin (Sports Medicine).  Both students have not only excelled in our programs but have also shined among their peers here at Rice University.  Saez will begin medical school this fall at Baylor College of Medicine.  Griffin will be begin studies abroad in South Africa, Australia, India, and Japan as part of the Zeff Fellowship that he was awarded earlier this year.

Following the presentation of the Hermance award winners, Dr. Rodriguez recognized former MLB player Lance Berkman for returning to Rice to finish his degree.  Rodriguez remarked that Lance "excelled in all of his classes this year and set the bar high for the other students".

We also recognized Sajani Patel, who was designated with the Distinction in Research and Creative Works award.  She was recently published, along with her mentor and colleagues, for the research she assisted with.  Additionally, we announced the following awards given to our majors:  Cecilia Liang (Alan Grob Prize), Meg Cornaghie (Student Association’s Outstanding Senior), and Chris Chu (Spirit of Service Award).  We are so proud of our outstanding graduates and wish them all luck with all future endeavors!
