Melissa Wittmayer, Alumna-Health Sciences (’11) 

WittmayerMelissa Wittmayer graduated in 2011 with a major in Kinesiology: Health Sciences. After graduating from Rice, she worked for the Houston Area Women's Center. As a Training Specialist, she trained professionals such as the Houston Police Department, doctors, nurses, lawyers, religious leaders, and counselors on domestic violence and sexual violence crisis intervention skills. She was responsible for training development, implementation and evaluation.

Following her time at Houston Area Women's Center, Melissa worked for Cal Poly University - San Luis Obispo as an Assistant Coordinator for a campus violence prevention program. She managed and facilitated presentations and trainings to athletes, fraternities, student leaders, staff, and faculty.

Previous to her current position, Melissa worked for University of California - Santa Barbara as a Health Educator. As the manager for the Sexual Health and Relationships program, she lead the campus sexual health education and promotion efforts. In addition, she coordinated the health education curriculum development for the department's health topics, and advised student staff on implementation of health promotion strategies.

In 2016, Melissa accepted a position as a Health Promotion Specialist at Columbia University. In this new position, she manages the day-to-day operations of Columbia's Go Ask Alice! website and social media content.  Go Ask Alice! is a health Q&A Internet resource that works to provide readers with reliable, accurate, accessible, culturally competent information so that they can make informed decisions.
