Major: Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology
Kamryn Bacchus-Larode is a Junior studying Sport Medicine and Exercise Physiology. She is originally from Brooklyn, NY but made her way to the south to study at Rice University. She always knew this was the place for her and that Sports Medicine was the way to go.
Previously, Kamryn was a competitive gymnast as well as a dancer and has had her fair share of doctors' visits with sports injuries. Accordingly, she has decided to pursue a career in Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. These fields will allow her to help others in the same way she was helped in her earlier years. For the PT/ATC track, observation hours are part of the requirements to apply. COVID made it difficult to find clinics that allowed students to observe, but Kamryn was able to find Sterling Physical Therapy and Wellness. She started out as a volunteer and was recently hired to be a Physical Therapy Technician. In this position, Kamryn gets to work with patients, learn about the field she wants to pursue, and gain some valuable experience.
Outside of the clinic, Kamryn is part of SARCOMERE, which is the Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology majors club here at Rice focused on community outreach in sports medicine. As part of the outreach mission, she will be a member of the SARCOMERE team that will provide post-race stretching & medical massage to runners at the 2022 Chevron Houston Marathon in January 2022. Kamryn enjoys working with the club's faculty sponsor Dr. Laura Kabiri and has taken multiple classes with her. She stated “Dr. Kabiri is one of the best! She brings experience and enthusiasm to everything she does. It is an absolute pleasure being her student.”
In her down time, Kamryn enjoys watching basketball, hitting the gym, and exploring Houston with friends.
