The Kinesiology Summer Undergraduate Experiential Learning Fellowship is a program for undergraduates from underresourced backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a supervised experiential learning internship (e.g., supervised research, practical internship, non-profit internship) within the fields of Exercise Science & Sports Medicine or Health Sciences. The program prioritizes first-generation college students and students from limited-income backgrounds. Students must find a research experience with a faculty member at Rice or an outside institution (e.g., Houston Methodist, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Children’s Nutrition Research Center, etc.). Fellows will receive $5,000 and are expected to work approximately 40 hours per week for 10-weeks.
Eligibility:
- Hold an identity that is first-generation or limited-income
- Are a returning Rice undergraduate student, enrolled full-time during the upcoming Fall semester
- Are in good academic standing
- Can engage in the program for the summer duration (e.g., no long vacations, summer abroad or demanding coursework)
- Will disclose if you will receive additional monetary compensation for your internship
Fellowship Program Requirements:
- Sign up for HEAL 379 or KINE 375 and complete necessary coursework
- Present your work during Inquiry Week or another conference
Application Requirements:
- Letter of Support: A letter from your internship supervisor that outlines: start and end dates, a description of proposed activities and expectations, and contact information for the supervisor.
- Internship Outline: A one-page (single spaced, typed, 12-point font) outline that includes: the name of your supervisor and their affiliation(s), planned experiences, planned outcomes, and any additional requirements you may have (e.g., onboarding, CITI training, etc.)
