Major: Kinesiology - Sports Medicine Concentration
I am a member of the Women’s Track and Field team at Rice. This past Indoor season, I recovered from a longstanding injury to compete in the high jump at the C-USA Conference Championships and finish in second place. As a team, we also finished as the C-USA Champions. Before college, I played a variety of sports. I enjoyed the physical work, and I found solace in being an athlete, despite the fact that I constantly found myself in different states of injury. With my educational focus on Sports Medicine, I am committed to helping the youth find that same comfort in athletics that I did, with injury or without.
This past year, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Office of Inclusion & Diversity (ODI) as a student fellow. I acted as a liaison between the ODI and the student body, while also helping put on a variety of public discussions that were open to both faculty and the student body.
Outside of work and the classroom, I am heavily invested in my leadership position as a three year Executive Board Member for Rice’s African Student Association (RASA). RASA is a fast growing club on campus for people of African, and non-African, descent to come together to learn about the country, build a community, and support one another. We hold biweekly meetings that are open to the entire campus, host bonding events and cultural shows, and educate the Rice community on subjects relating to Africa. The club has been a home to me since my freshman year, and I have the opportunity to give back to it by holding the position of one of the Dance Directors.
