Kendall is a member of the Rice Women's Track and Field team and hopes to pursue her Master's in Orthotics and Prosthetics after graduating from Rice. Watching a wheelchair race at a track meet in high school has continued to inspire Kendall to work in this field. She has volunteered with the Range of Motion Project (ROMP) to fabricate orthotic and prosthetic devices for underserved populations in Guatemala, and volunteers locally at Shriner's Hospital for Children in their pediatric prosthetics and orthotics lab.
Through her studies at Rice, Kendall was introduced to Dr. Laura Kabiri and her research. Kendall has worked with Dr. Kabiri to examine health-related fitness differences between homeschooled and public-schooled children and adolescents. There is currently no state mandate for physical activity in homeschool curriculum, which leaves this population vulnerable to inadequate fitness levels. In the spring of her sophomore year, Kendall presented her findings at the Rice Undergraduate Research Symposium.
The garden at Rice has provided Kendall a special opportunity to diversify her college experience. All of the produce grown in the gardens is sold to serveries on campus to promote student health. This part of Kendall's college experience has allowed her to find a little bit of nature in the middle of Houston's bustling metropolis. Kendall invites anyone who is interested to come out and help grow some food (volunteer hours are posted on the gates)!
Kendall is incredibly grateful for the opportunities, challenges, and support she has received at Rice, and extends her thanks to the Rice community for their contribution to her growth.
