Luke Han is a senior studying Health Sciences at Rice University. Originally from West Palm Beach Florida, he attended the University of Florida for two years before transferring to Rice University in the spring of 2021.
He is currently pursuing a track in nursing and is interested specifically in flight nursing. His background in emergency medical services extends well into his high school, with his first medical intervention happening when he was just 17, while running a cross country race. He currently serves as an advanced emergency medical technician with the City of Alvin, responding to 911 calls and requests for medical assistance from residents of Alvin and Brazoria County. Prior to his work with the City of Alvin, he had the opportunity to be a crewmember on Children’s Memorial Hermann’s Pediatric and Neonate Ground Transport Team, serving as the EMT on the transport team designed to transfer critically ill children from outlying hospitals to provide them the highest possible level of care at Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center. He also worked during the COVID-19 pandemic as an EMT, conducting interfacility transports between hospitals and working in emergency rooms during outbreaks.
At Rice, he serves as a Peer Academic Advisor for his residential college, and has completed the Health, Humanism, and Society Scholars program with the VA Quality Scholars to better understand the qualitative factors that contribute to medical fellows being able to learn more effectively, such as mentorship, curriculum design, and feedback. He is also the president of HEALAR and is a tour guide for Rice Admissions.
Outside of school and work, he enjoys working out and biking. He is also an avid skateboarder and can often be found skating down parking garages or around Rice. He also enjoys cooking, and is steadily getting closer and closer to cooking the perfect pork loin. His go-to dessert is chocolate chip cookies, though cheesecake takes a close second. He also enjoys playing floor hockey with Lovett’s intramural team.
