Major: Kinesiology - Sports Medicine concentration
Minor: Biochemistry and Cell Biology
I am majoring in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine and minoring in biochemistry and cell biology. I have played soccer my whole life and have had 2 knee surgeries, which is why I was interested in the sports medicine side. Understanding how and why these injuries occur had always been of interest to me, especially when I re-tore my ACL sophomore year. I originally chose Kinesiology because I wanted to go to medical school and pursue orthopedic surgery, and the sports medicine track contained all the classes I knew I would need to have a better understanding of the body in this context. Soon after shadowing, I decided medical school wasn't for me, but I still had a big interest in learning and understanding how and why the body moves as it does. My junior year I set my heart on dental school, which I will be attending in the fall of 2021 at Texas A&M School of Dentistry.
I am also on the Women's Soccer team at Rice. I never thought I would be able to attend an academic institution like Rice, and I am so thankful that soccer gave me this opportunity. Freshman year, I was selected to the Conference USA All-freshman team and the Conference USA All-conference third team. I missed my junior season due to injury, but came back my senior season to be selected to the Conference USA All-tournament team after we won regular season and the conference tournament. The tournament win gave us a bid to the NCAA women’s soccer tournament where we made it to the sweet 16 (third round) for the first time in Rice history. I was also selected as the women’s soccer team scholar athlete, which is the athlete with the highest GPA on the team.
I am so thankful that I chose to come to Rice and major in kinesiology. I am very excited to use the skills that I learned at this amazing school and apply them to dental school and beyond.
